AC / DC is a hard rock band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. The band is considered one of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal, alongside bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest and Deep Purple. However, its members always classified their music from "rock 'n' roll."

AC / DC went through several changes of alignment before launching his first album, High Voltage, in 1975. The composition remained stable until bassist Cliff Williams replaced Mark Evans in 1977. In 1979, the band recorded its the successful album Highway to Hell. The co-composer and vocalist Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after the night before consuming a large amount of alcohol. The group considered the separation for some time, but quickly the ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was the selected for the place of Scott. Later that year, the band launched its best-selling album, Back in Black.

The band's next album, For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), was also successful and became the first album of heavy metal to achieve 1st place in the United States. The AC / DC declined in popularity shortly after the departure of drummer Phil Rudd in 1983. The weak sales continued until the release of The Razor's Edge in 1990. Phil Rudd returned in 1994 and contributed to the band's 1995 album, Ballbreaker. Stiff Upper Lip was released in 2000 and was well received by critics. Plans for a new album was announced in 2004 and completed in 2008 with the launch of the album Black Ice

The AC / DC has sold nearly 200 million copies worldwide, including 68 million U.S. only. Back in Black has sold approximately 42 million copies worldwide, of which 22 in the U.S., [11] making it the 2nd best selling album of all time in the U.S.. The AC / DC were in fourth on VH1's list of the 100 Major Artists of Hard Rock [12] and were considered by MTV the 7th "Greater Heavy Metal Band of All Time."
